Indie pop rock duo Good Boy Daisy appear more focused than ever on their newest single, “Supermodel.”

Released Friday, “Supermodel” marks the twin sisters’ second release of the year, following the electronically-charged “Running from the Headlines.”

The lyrics take an interesting approach to a tried and true subject matter. The narrator is hit on by a shy suitor who only knows to say the typical pick-up lines, but she gently shoots them down. It’s nothing personal, they just don’t meet her worth or standards at the moment; she’s looking for someone who’s either making bank or got good looks.

The bass and percussion contrast each other here, with the percussion donning a lower sound and the bass being more upbeat. Underlying elements of buzzy guitar gain prominence during the chorus. A simple, synthy riff from Dylinn Mayes and hand claps build the bridge’s backbone before the rest of the instrumentation comes back in. Hallie Mayes’ vocal delivery starts out nonchalant to match the lyrical tone, but fittingly becomes more assertive towards the end, overpowering the more masculine backing vocals.

While their ideal seems just out of reach on this song, “Supermodel” marks another step in the right direction for Good Boy Daisy. They know their worth, and they just might get it.
